Inspection Process
What precision machining means at Partsproto
Precision machining is CNC work where CTQs, datums, and process capability matter more than commodity cycle time—tight fits, optical-adjacent surfaces, and multi-op stack-ups planned deliberately.
Choose it when drawings carry fine GD&T, matched sets, or materials that punish guesswork (Ti, hard steels, engineering plastics).
We are a China export shop: quotes include inspection options and realistic tolerances—not inflated slogans without a print.
- → CTQs tighter than general shop defaults
- → Multi-face GD&T that needs fixture strategy
- → Hard metals or plastics that need proven parameters
- → FAIR / CMM documentation for overseas OEMs
Precision process workflow
Print & risk review
Map CTQs, datums, and which ops create stack-up risk.
Process plan
Choose mill / turn / grind / EDM mix; leave stock where needed.
First article
Full CTQ check; freeze offsets and tooling.
Controlled lot
Patrol inspection; environmental notes for fine fits when relevant.
Docs & ship
FAIR/CMM as ordered; export pack.
DFM tips for precision parts
- •Reserve fine tolerances for functional fits; blanket tight dims inflate cost without improving function.
- •Give a clear datum scheme—precision without datums is theater.
- •Call grind or hone explicitly when turned/milled finish cannot hold the fit.
- •For matched sets, say how parts are paired and marked.
- •Tell us inspection temperature expectations for fine aluminum fits.
Inspection & QC
- ✓CTQ list agreed at quote / PO.
- ✓CMM or optical for complex GD&T when required.
- ✓Surface finish and form checks on sealing/bearing faces.
- ✓Material certs and heat-treat certs when ordered.
- ✓FAIR packages available for regulated overseas buyers.
Lead time & batch sizing
Precision prototypes often need 1–3 weeks after DFM depending on grind/EDM and inspection depth. Production lots reuse fixtures—request 1 / 10 / 50 / 200 breaks. Rush is possible only when material and capacity allow.
Precision machining FAQ
What tolerance can you hold?
Depends on feature, material, and process. We quote achievable CTQs after DFM—not a single marketing number for every dim.
Do you offer grinding?
Yes when the print needs it; leave stock and call it out so soft machining is planned correctly.
Is this only for aerospace?
No. Precision shows up in industrial, medical-adjacent, optics, and automation. Requirements come from your print.
How do overseas buyers RFQ?
Send STEP/PDF, CTQ highlights, material, qty, and required docs. Partsproto replies from China with process notes and lead time.
