What production machining means here

Production machining is repeating CNC work with locked process sheets, sampling plans, and unit prices that drop as setup is amortized—not one-off prototype heroics every lot.

Choose this path when you have stable drawings, forecastable volume, and need consistent China-export deliveries to overseas lines or distributors.

We still DFM every revision. Drawing changes reset FA—budget for that honestly.

  • → Repeating lots from tens to thousands per release
  • → You want break-point pricing and a frozen process sheet
  • → Mix of milling, turning, and secondary finishes on one PO
  • → Overseas receiving needs labels, certs, and AQL clarity

DFM tips for production machining

  • •Freeze revision before asking for the lowest unit price—mid-lot drawing changes kill amortization.
  • •Group similar parts or finishes on one release to share setups.
  • •Define AQL / CTQ list on the PO so inspection cost is visible.
  • •Call secondary ops (anodize, heat treat, passivate) early for scheduling.
  • •Provide annual volume estimate even if POs are monthly—quoting changes.

Inspection & QC for production lots

  • ✓First article on new revisions before volume release.
  • ✓In-process patrol on CTQs per process sheet.
  • ✓Final sampling or 100% critical per PO agreement.
  • ✓Material and finish certs when requested.
  • ✓Photo or dimensional reports for overseas receiving on request.

Lead time & batch sizing

After FA freeze, repeating aluminum lots often cycle in 1–3 weeks depending on finish ops and queue. New revisions add FA time. Ask for pilot + production breaks (e.g. 50 / 200 / 1,000). Kanban or blanket POs available for stable export programs.

Production machining FAQ

How is production different from prototype quotes?

Prototypes price setup once per job. Production amortizes setup across qty, locks a process sheet, and prices sampling explicitly.

Can you hold inventory?

Buffer or scheduled releases can be agreed on blanket POs—scope storage and payment terms on the contract.

What if the drawing changes?

We stop and re-FA. Unit price and lead time may change—send redlines before the next release.

Do you ship overseas from China?

Yes. Partsproto is a China export machining supplier serving overseas buyers.

What should be on a production RFQ?

Stable PDF/STEP, revision, material, finish, qty breaks, CTQs, ship-to, and target cadence.

Buyer notes

  • →Process sheets freeze after FA—revision bumps require re-approval.
  • →Break-point quotes (pilot vs production) keep landed cost honest.
  • →AQL and cert packages are line items, not surprises at ship.

Request volume / production pricing

Send stable revision, annual volume estimate, CTQs, finishes, and ship-to country for export lot pricing.
